Community Pharmacy Service Section (CPSS) was set up in June 2000 and it has continued to strive to improve the services and standardizing the practices in all the peripheral health centres and clinics.

The main function of CPSS is to provide dispensary services at all peripheral health centres in the country and to ensure smooth running of the dispensing activities in accordance to Good Dispensing Practice. Other functions also include supplying medication to clinics, provide inhaler technique counselling, and monitor drug usage and wastages.

In support of the Extended Hour Out-Patient Services to the community, CPSS also provides dispensary services at Bandar Seri Begawan Health Centre after office hours i.e. from 6.00pm to 9.00pm everyday except Friday and Sunday where it opens from 2.00pm to 9.00pm.

CPSS also joins Flying Medical Service on a monthly visit to Sukang, Kuala Belait to ensure medications are dispensed with proper counseling and monitor their drug usage.

There are fourteen (14) dispensaries under CPSS where nine (9) are located in Brunei Muara District, three (3) are located in Tutong District and two (2) are located in Belait District. These dispensaries do not limit their dispensing activities to prescriptions from health centres only but also accept prescriptions coming from government hospital and other government health institutions.

Besides dispensary services, CPSS also assists other services including Public Health, Mother and Child Health and Dental Services in matters pertaining to drugs and other pharmacy related issues.

This section is headed by Pharmaceutical Chemist. A total of 33 staff are directly under this section consisting of 2 Pharmaceutical Chemists, 1 Dispensary Superintendent, 2 Senior Dispensers, 18 Trained Dispensers, 2 Trainee Dispensers and 8 Assistant Dispensers. The dispensers in Tutong and Belait Districts are under the supervision of the Pharmaceutical Chemist in-charge of the respective district hospital.
