Advisory on Hand, foot and mouth disease
TThe main advice is to always maintain self-hygiene and clean surrounding. Breaking this advice down into simple steps, parents and children should practice the following points below to prevent HFMD and reduce the risk of infection:
- Maintain self-hygiene: Wash your hands regularly with soap and clean water especially: after using the toilet, before preparing food after changing baby diapers or any sort of household work.
- Keep infected children away from public places and crowded areas such as markets, shopping complex, swimming pool, etc.
- Keep the infected children away from school to prevent HFMD infections with other children.
- Don't let siblings play with infected brothers and sisters before they are fully cured.
- Cleaning and disinfecting any surface dirty surface including toys.
IMPORTANT: Bring your child to the nearest health centre or clinic or hospital as soon as he or she show signs of HMFD infection.
