STANDARDS & INFORMATION
All
food products, weather sold or distributed, imported or manufactured, in Brunei
Darussalam must comply to the standards set within the Public
Health (Food) Act (Chapter 182) and its Regulations (R1, Chapter 182).
Other than the labelling requirements,
it also includes the safety and appropriateness of the ingredients and that the
food is not contaminated with any substances that are harmful to health.
The
regulations outlines several standards including the following:
- Maximum levels of preservatives that can be used in certain foods
- Maximum amount of heavy metals allowed in food
- Microbiological contaminant
Where
the standard is not specified in the Public Health (Food) Act (Chapter 182) and
its Regulations (R1, Chapter 182), then Codex Alimentarius
international
standards shall apply.
