Department of Human Resource
The Administration provides quality services for the governance, management and development of human resources in the Ministry of Health. This includes general administration, recruitment of health personnel, development of non-clinical human resources, disciplinary, succession planning for executives and the management of estate, housing, and Human Resource Systems (HaRIIS and GEMS).

Noncommunicable Diseases (NCD) Prevention Unit

The office of internal audit monitors the adequacy, efficiency and effectiveness of the internal control processes that have been established by the organizational governance by carrying out planned internal/external audits on all services under the Ministry.

Medical and Health Research Ethics Committee

The role of the MHREC is to conduct scientific and ethical assessments of all studies related to human health research conducted by both Ministry of Health (MOH) and non-MOH researchers in Brunei Darussalam.
Please note that MHREC no longer provides retrospective approval for any research study in reference to Minute KK/TSUT(P)/E06/2009 dated 8 November 2022 from the Deputy Permanent Secretary (Professional).

Department of Scientific Services
The Department of Scientific Services (DSS) is responsible for providing laboratory services through comprehensive scientific analysis to support public health and law enforcement agencies in Brunei Darussalam. DSS is capable of providing such scientific analytical services that are needed in line with current developments in the fields of health science, forensic science and in assisting to fulfill food export requirement.
DSS accepts samples from the private sector and members of the public and will charge a fee for performing the needed analysis. Please contact DSS in order to find out the laboratory charges for any particular analysis.

Environmental Health Services
The Environmental Health Services was established in the early 1950s stemming from the investigation on the prevalence of malaria in Brunei Darussalam by a group of researchers from the World Health Organization (WHO). Additionally, in 1962, the Brunei Government has organized malaria control activities and established the National Malaria Eradication Services (NMES) with the assistance from WHO. NMES was then assigned as a section within the Environmental Health Division, Department of Medical and Health Services in 1966.
With time, the work scope, range of services, programs and work force expanded. On 18th September 1999, with the reformation of the Organizational Structure of the Department of Medical and Health Services, Environmental Health Division was elevated and the purview of the Department of Health Services which was headed by a Director General. In February 2004, Environmental Health Services, led by a Director, was established.

Epidemic Intelligence and Response Unit (EIRU), Brunei Centre for Disease Control and Prevention
The Epidemic Intelligence and Response Unit (EIRU), established on 1st November 2023, is a cornerstone of Brunei’s public health infrastructure, operating under the Brunei Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (Brunei CDC). As one of the three key units under Brunei CDC, EIRU specializes in the surveillance, prevention, and response to both communicable and non-communicable diseases (NCDs). By leveraging advanced digital tools such as the Public Health Surveillance platform, we ensure early detection of infectious diseases and provide rapid outbreak response. Our goal is to safeguard public health through effective disease control measures, evidence-based interventions, and strengthening Brunei’s resilience to health challenges.

Priority Diseases Unit (PDU), Brunei Centre For Disease Control and Prevention
Available Services
Vaccination Centre, Berakas
- Provides Hajj and Umrah vaccinations (influenza and meningitis vaccines),
- Food-handler vaccinations (typhoid vaccine)
- Flu vaccinations (influenza vaccine);
- Provides vaccinations as prescribed by doctors for renal and respiratory patients as well as those prescribed by Occupational Health Physicians. These can include Hepatitis B, Pneumococcal and Measles Mumps Rubella vaccinations; and
- Provides travel advice for travellers with recommendations for vaccinations according to their travel destinations.
National Tuberculosis Coordinating Centre Kiarong
- Provides clinical consultation and counselling for active Tuberculosis and Latent Tuberculosis Infection patients;
- Provides Tuberculosis medication supply and close monitoring of all Tuberculosis patients via Direct Observed Therapy Short-Course (DOTs) and Video Observed Therapy Short-Course (VOTs); and
- Provides Mantoux Skin Test service for screening of Tuberculosis
Vaccination Preventable Diseases (VPDs)
- Routine Vaccine Preventable Disease surveillance and response if there is outbreak; and
- Work together with Child Health Clinics to ensure high vaccination coverage for VPDs covered in the National Immunisation Programme.
National Health Screening Programme
The public is able to register for each screening programmes through BruHealth app. There are four health screening programmes offered under the NHSP:
- Cardiovascular risk factors screening
- Colorectal cancer screening
- Breast cancer screening
- Cervical cancer screening
