Wednesday, 13 Rabiulawal 1448H / 26 August 2026 – The Ministry of Health, through the Brunei Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (Brunei CDC) under the Department of Environmental Health Services, is convening the National One Health Joint Plan of Action (NOHJPA) Workshop from 26 to 28 August 2026 at the EVYD Tech Campus, Jerudong.
The workshop is being conducted in collaboration with the Quadripartite organisations, comprising the World Health Organization (WHO), the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), the World Organisation for Animal Health (WOAH) and the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP).
The opening ceremony was graced by Yang Mulia Awang Salminan bin Haji Burut, Permanent Secretary (Community Welfare), Ministry of Home Affairs; Yang Mulia Hj Azhan bin Hj Abd Karim, Acting Director-General of Public Works Department, on behalf of the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Development; Yang Mulia Haji Muhammad Safwan bin Abdullah Bibi, Director of Trade Facilitation and Market Access, on behalf of Deputy Permanent Secretary (Primary Resources and Tourism), Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry; and Yang Mulia Dr Hajah Rafidah binti Haji Gharif, Deputy Permanent Secretary (Professional), Ministry of Health, as Guests of Honour.
Welcome remarks were delivered by Yang Mulia Dr Hajah Rafidah binti Haji Gharif, followed by opening remarks by Ms Marie-Yon Strücker, One Health Consultant for UNEP, on behalf of the Quadripartite organisations.
The workshop brings together approximately 70 participants from government ministries and agencies, academia and international partner organisations together with technical experts from the Quadripartite organisations. The participants represent key sectors involved in advancing the One Health approach, which recognizes the interconnectedness of human, animal and environmental health.
Throughout the workshop, participants will review national strategic priorities, refine proposed interventions and develop implementation milestones across the six One Health Action Tracks. The validated draft NOHJPA is expected to outline how Brunei Darussalam will strengthen its capacity to prevent, detect, prepare for and respond to zoonotic diseases and other One Health threats at the human–animal–environment interface.
Once finalised, the NOHJPA will serve as Brunei Darussalam’s national strategic framework for strengthening collaboration and coordinated action across the human, animal and environmental health sectors.
The development of the NOHJPA follows the One Health Zoonotic Disease Prioritization Workshop held in February 2026 and builds on a series of national One Health initiatives undertaken since 2025, including the National Bridging Workshop, stakeholder mapping and situational analysis. These initiatives have contributed towards identifying national priorities and strengthening multisectoral coordination in addressing One Health challenges.
At the international and regional levels, Brunei Darussalam’s NOHJPA will be aligned with the Quadripartite One Health Joint Plan of Action and the ASEAN One Health Joint Plan of Action, enabling national efforts to contribute towards collective preparedness and coordinated One Health action across ASEAN Member States.
Brunei CDC is organising the workshop with the support of the Joint National Taskforce for Zoonotic Diseases. The Ministry of Health acknowledges with appreciation the technical expertise provided by WHO, FAO, WOAH and UNEP, as well as support from Global Affairs Canada through the ASEAN Mitigation of Biological Threats Programme.
The workshop represents an important step in translating agreed national priorities into a coordinated and time-bound multisectoral plan of action, further strengthening Brunei Darussalam’s preparedness against current and emerging One Health threats.
