The Cardiology Department at RIPAS Hospital was established on 1st April 2023 as a standalone department committed to delivering advanced standards in cardiology for adult heart patients. Previously it was a Speciality Unit within the Department of Internal Medicine.
The Cardiology Department runs the Heart Centre and Coronary Care Unit (CCU) which provides a full range of inpatient and outpatient cardiac services ranging from consultations to preventive services, diagnostic tests together with therapeutic and rehabilitative services. Outreach services are also provided by the Department to PMMPHAMB Hospital in Tutong and SSB Hospital in Kuala Belait.
The Cardiology Department is staffed by a full team of experienced and committed Consultant and Specialist cardiologists and other junior staff. Other clinical staff include Specialist nurses and Cardiovascular Technologists. The medical staff are fully supported by modern diagnostic technology.
Moreover, the Cardiology Department has a committed academic program, providing medical student teaching in partnership with Universiti Brunei Darussalam, basic specialist training in Internal Medicine in collaboration with the Department of Internal Medicine, and a Level 5 Cardiovascular Technology diploma program in collaboration with Politeknik Brunei. Research activities include the use of a Cardiovascular Registry Platform linked to the electronic medical record to gain new insights into cardiology care provided in Brunei Darussalam.
