Brief Introduction

The Community Health Services provide effective and comprehensive services, easily accessible and acceptable to the community, focusing on the aspects of primary health care, school health, disease treatment and control as well as health promotion.

What We Offer

Division of Primary Health Care Services

Among the main functions of this section are as follows:

1. Provide basic health services that are comprehensive and easily available according to each catchment area.

2. Carry out activities at the health center/clinic level that aim to:

  • Disease Prevention
  • Early Detection of Diseases
  • Disease Management
  • Prevention or reduction of complications

3. Make reference to the following services:

  • Emergency Department
  • Specialist Clinics
  • Detained in the ward (admission)
  • Community Nutrition, Community Psychology, Medical Social Workers, Physiotherapy, Podiatry and so on.

4. Others:

  • Medical Fitness examination for some specific categories.
  • Preparation of medical reports.

5. This section also provides services for the following locations:

  • Brunei International Airport Health Clinic
  • Prison Clinic – Jerudong and Maraburong
  • Al-Islah Center Health Clinic
  • Welfare House Complex
Division of Maternal Health Services

Among the main functions of this section are as follows:

1. Provision of ante-natal care for expectant mothers includes:

  • Carry out related health briefings such as Breastfeeding
  • Continuous risk assessment
  • Ultrasound scan service
  • Giving ante-natal supplements
  • Vaccination if needed
  • Identify cases of pregnant mothers who are at high risk. These people will be referred to certain experts such as Nutrition Officer, Medical Social Worker and/or the Obstetrics and Gynecology Division.

2. Providing health care after delivery (post-natal) includes:

  • Postnatal check-ups and care, including home visits for new mothers by trained nurses/midwives
  • Examination 6 weeks after delivery.

3. Counseling related to family planning (Family Planning).

Division of Child Health Services

Among the main functions of this section are as follows:

1. Examination of the development of children aged between 0 and 5 years old in centers and health clinics in their respective catchment areas. This is given through meeting sessions every 2 to 3 months for the first year, and then every six months from age 1 to 5.

2. Vaccination as outlined in the national immunization program.

3. Clinical management of children in need, including referral to certain specialists such as Associates, Paediatrics or detained in a hospital ward for examination and further treatment.

4. Provide health advice related to the health and safety of children between 0 and 5 years old.

Division of Community Psychology

Among the main functions of this section are as follows:

1. Receive case referrals from Medical Officers at health centres/clinics, other health professionals and also external agencies such as the Department of Community Development (JAPEM), the Crime Investigation Unit for Abuse of Women and Children, and the Department Special education.

2. Collaborate with patients who need help improving their health and mental well-being.

3. Provide practical health advice related to mental health to the general population.

Community Nutrition Division

Among the main functions of this section are as follows:

1. Receive case referrals from Medical Officers for patients who have been identified as needing improvement in their eating habits.

2. Collaborate with patients who need improvement in their nutrition to improve their health – such as obesity management and diabetes patients.

3. Provide practical health advice related to healthy eating for the general public.

Division of Community Nursing Services

Among the main functions of this section is to provide the following services:

1. Basic Health Care:

  • Conduct screening for every patient who will see the Medical Officer
  • Provide basic treatment such as washing the wound and dressing.
  • Give injections as directed by the Medical Officer.
  • Conduct patient tests such as urine tests, pregnancy tests, blood sugar tests and ECG tests.
  • Help the Medical Officer monitor the patients detained in the Observation Room.

2. Maternal Health:

  • Provide care including individual counseling (one-to-one) for mothers during pregnancy (ante-natal) and after delivery (post-natal).
  • Giving vaccinations to expectant mothers.
  • Provide individual and group counseling to promote breastfeeding to pregnant and postpartum mothers.
  • Carrying out visits to the mothers’ homes after giving birth to ensure that the health of the mother and child is satisfactory.

3. Child Health:

  • Provide health care including counseling to children aged 0 to 5 years and their guardians/parents.
  • Provide vaccination to children aged 0 to 5 years as per the Expanded Program of Immunization for Brunei Darussalam.

4. Nurse-led Clinic:

  • Diabetic Nurse Educators (DNEs) Clinic
  • Foot Screening Clinic
  • Stop Smoking Clinic
  • Pap Test Clinic
  • National Health Screening Program Clinic

5. Others:

  • Brunei International Airport Medical Clinic
  • Prison Medical Clinic – Jerudong and Maraburong
  • Al-Islah Central Medical Clinic
  • Welfare House Complex.
