Brief Introduction

Podiatry services was established in Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Saleha Hospital in 1998. It is an allied health profession dedicated to the study, diagnosis and treatment of foot, ankle and lower limb. Our aim is to improve the mobility, independence and quality of life of patients by providing preventative care, diagnosis and treatment of a wide range of problems affecting the feet, ankles and lower limb.

Vision: Strive to improve foot health and quality of life for all. 

Mission: To promote foot health education, prevent foot disabilities and to provide efficient and high-quality Podiatry service. 

What We Offer

General Treatments
  • Dermatological conditions of the foot e.g. callosities, corns, fungal infections and warts.
  • Toenail pathologies e.g. thickened toenails, in-growing toenails, fungal toenails.
Minor Toenail Surgery (Toenail Avulsion)
  • Removal of problematic toenails (whether partial nail or total nail).
  • Local Anaesthesia is first injected into the toe before removing the toenail.
Gait Analysis
  • Also known as Biomechanics Assessment.
  • To assess how the foot and lower limb functions during standing / walking, identifying any abnormalities and providing the appropriate treatment.
Musculoskeletal Assessment of the Lower Limb

To assess the function, strength and range of motion of the muscles, bones and joints of the lower limb, foot and ankle to identify any abnormalities.

Prescription of Customised Footwear Insoles / Orthotics
  • Insoles / Orthotics are customised medical devices according to your feet size and shape.
  • They are worn inside the footwear to help align and correct any foot and ankle abnormalities found during Gait Analysis. 
  • They also help to provide comfort and relieve foot pain during standing / walking. 
  • Off-loading devices for the foot and lower limb.  
Off-Loading Devices for the High Risk Foot and Lower Limb

Offloading devices are used to treat or prevent diabetic or non-diabetic foot ulcers. Their purpose is to redistribute pressure on plantar aspect (sole) of the foot thereby reducing the risk of foot ulcers and infection. Common offloading modalities include removable controlled ankle movement walkers/boots  and total contact casts.

Diabetic Foot Screening
  • Patients with diabetes are at risk of developing wounds / ulcers on their feet.
  • Podiatrists provide neurological, vascular and footwear assessments to identify the high-risk foot and educate patients with diabetes on the prevention of foot wound/ulcers.
Paediatric Foot Disorders
  • Paediatric (Infant and Children) foot disorders include a range of conditions that may affect the bones, tendons and muscles of the foot.
  • These disorders may be present at birth e.g. clubfoot (infant’s foot is turned inwards at the ankle).
Podiatry Therapy
  • Includes cryotherapy commonly used for treatment of chronic verrucae pedis (warts).
  • Light therapy to help reduce inflammation and promote tissue healing.
  • Therapeutic ultrasound used to treat soft tissue injuries and promote tissue healing in the lower limbs and feet.
Foot Health Education

Educate patients on general foot care, toenail care and suitable footwear.

Joint Podiatry Vascular Clinic (Multi-Disciplinary Service)
  • Management of peripheral vascular disease of the foot and lower limb.
  • Management of lower extremity ulcers for patients with or without Diabetes.
Joint Podiatry Endocrinology Clinic (Multi-Disciplinary Service)
  • Management of glycaemic control Management of diabetic foot ulcers.
Wound Management (Including Diabetic and Non-diabetic Foot Ulcers)
  • Open sores or wounds (ulcers) on the feet of patients with diabetes that are slow to heal (non-healing).
  • Treatment involves sharp debridement of the ulcer (removal of dead skin tissue) & using specialised medicated dressings.
  • Debridement of wounds using ultrasonic device to promote wound healing. 
  • Wound management in patients with Diabetes also require diabetic foot screening and assessment.
