Brief Introduction

The Department of Radiology at Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Saleha Hospital is the main diagnostic imaging center in Brunei Darussalam.

The department has 16 procedure rooms extensively equipped with a variety of imaging machines such as X-ray, ultrasound, computed tomography (CT) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI).

What We Offer

General X-ray
  • Uses radiation to produce images of the body, its organs and other internal structures for diagnostic purpose.
  • Carried out either in the main department, Emergency Department or as a portable (bedside) examination in the wards and operating theatres.
Ultrasound
  • Uses high-frequency sound waves to produce images for the assessment of internal organs such as thyroid, liver, kidneys and others.
  • Carried out either in the main department or portable (bedside) and in the Obstetric and Gynaecology clinic.
  • Ultrasound is often used to provide real-time images to guide Radiologists for diagnostic procedures or treatment. e.g. tissue sampling (biopsy)
Computed Tomography (CT)
  • Examination that uses a combination of X-rays and computer technology to create images of the inside of the body.
  • CT is also often used to guide Radiologists for diagnostic procedures or treatment. e.g. radiofrequency ablation (treatment for liver cancer).
Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI)
  • Uses high-powered magnetic fields and radio waves to create detailed images of the organs in the body without the use of radiation.
  • MRI is very good at looking at different parts of the body such as the brain, nerves, bones and joints.
  • As it uses a strong magnetic field, patients must inform their doctor if they have any previous surgeries such as metal implants, aneurysm clips and pacemakers.
Mammography
  • Mammography uses low-energy X-rays to examine the breast for detection of any abnormalities or changes in the breast tissue.
  • It is used both as a diagnostic and screening tool. The goal of mammography is the early detection of breast cancer.
  • Under the National Breast Cancer Screening Program, screening mammograms is offered to females aged 40 to 69 years old.
Fluoroscopy
  • Fluoroscopy is a medical procedure that makes a real-time video of the movements inside a part of the body by passing X-rays through the body over some time, much like a black-and-white movie.

Interventional Radiology
  • Interventional Radiology is a method of treatment that uses X-rays to guide the insertion of catheters (tubes), wires, and other instruments into the body through blood vessels and organs.
  • Interventional radiology is often used as an alternative to much more invasive procedures, such as surgery, to enhance the quality of life for patients.
Bone Mineral Density (BMD)
  • Uses low-dose radiation to measure the amount of calcium and other minerals in the bones.
  • For screening individuals at risk of osteoporosis and predicting fracture risk.
  • Monitor the effectiveness of osteoporosis treatment.
