STANDARDS AND INFORMATION

The responsibility of the Standard Unit is to ensure that all food products complies to the standards set in the Public Health (Food) Act, (Chapter 182)(2) and Public Health (Food) Regulations, (R1 Chapter 182). The Unit also assists in the development of any standards and is a focal point for any standard related issues.

 

Standards for each category of food product are stated in the Regulations.

 

Maximum limits for the use of certain food additives (1) in certain category of food products are specified in the Public Health (Food) Regulations, (R1 Chapter 182). This can be viewed in the Eighth Schedule.

 

The maximum limit for the presence of heavy metal contaminants(3) can also be found in the Regulations.
