Clients are referred from psychiatric clinics or wards and are assessed for suitability before starting a program. Programs focus on improving social and occupational skills.

4. COMMUNITY MENTAL HEALTH SERVICE (ADULT)

The adult community mental health team provides follow-up services to clients who have been assessed by a psychiatrist and who require additional community support to maintain their mental health. A team consisting of psychiatric nurses and a supervising doctor, will conduct scheduled home visits to conduct mental state assessments, administer injected medication and deliver other medication, to ensure good medication compliance, to provide counseling and to support clients and their families.

Psychiatric services run an assisted living residence for previously long-term hospitalized patients. Male and female residents are housed in separate living quarters. The aim of these residences is to support the transition from hospital to the community. Clients are assisted in acquiring daily living skills and are eventually discharged home with family support. All referrals must come from a psychiatrist and are assessed for suitability.

The project to establish the assisted living unit was awarded a SILVER GROUP PRIZE, at the CIVIL SERVICE EXCELLENCE AWARDS in 2014.
