Dr Muhammad Syafiq Abdullah was appointed as the Medical Superintendant (MS) of Suri Seri Begawan Hospital, Kuala Belait in 2016. However he also holds many other positions including a Consultant Oncologist and Physician, RIPAS Hospital, an International PACES Examiner for Royal College of physician ( RCP, UK ) and an Associate Professor - PAP Rashidah Sa'adatul Bolkiah Institute of Health Sciences, UBD.
He had extensive experience in oncology and also headed many several divisions under the ministry. Some notable positions held by Dr Muhammad Syafiq includes being the Executive Director cum Consultant Oncologist at the National Cancer Centre, Jerudong Park, the Administrative Head of Division of Medical Services, R.I.P.A.S. Hospital, the Specialist Oncologist and Head of oncology unit, R.I.P.A.S. Hospital and the Head of Non-communicable disease (NCD) unit, Ministry of Health.
Dr Syafiq received his MBchB from the University of Liverpool in 1993 and completed his M.SC. in Clinical Oncology from the University of Glasgow in 2000. He has a M.R.C.P from the Royal College of Physicians, U.K. in 1996 and in 2014 received his F.R.C.P from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeon, Glasgow. He did his preregistration training in General medicine and Surgery, Walton & Fazakerley hospitals, Liverpool, U.K. (1993-1994). His Basic Medical Training (1994-1996) doing Medical rotation (cardiology, chest medicine, neurology), Walton & Fazakerley hospitals, Liverpool, U.K.. Finally his Higher specialist training was on Medical oncology and Palliative medicine, Glasgow Royal Infirmary and Beatson Oncology Centre, Glasgow, Scotland and Clinical oncology, Royal Marsden Hospitals, London and Surrey, U.K. (1996-2000).
