The Drug and Poison Information Section (DPIS) was established in 1993 to promote safe, effective and efficient use of medicines. DPIS provides support to healthcare professionals on treatment choices relating to medicines and poisoning cases whenever the information is required.

DPIS also plays an important role in coordinating drug safety monitoring activities under the National Adverse Drug Reaction Monitoring Programme which was implemented since December 1998. The National Adverse Drug Reaction Monitoring Centre of Brunei Darussalam under DPIS became a member of the World Health Organization (WHO) International Drug Monitoring Programme on 28th September 2005.

DPIS is also involved in educating the public on their medicines. In 2006, DPIS co-ordinated the formation of Pharmacy Public Education Committee to strengthen pharmacy public educational activities.
