Infectious Diseases Act (2010) The reporting of notifiable diseases by all (government and private) health care practitioners and clinical laboratories in Brunei Darussalam is a legal mandate under the Infectious disease Act(IDA). The diseases gazetted under the IDA (2010) are grouped into the following: Person to Person via contacts and respiratory route Food and Water Borne Diseases Vaccine Preventable Diseases Blood Borne and Sexually Transmitted Infections Vector Borne Diseases Other Infectious Diseases of Public Health Importance The IDA allows for mandatory notification of infectious diseases of public health importance. It also contains clauses to allow for investigation and management of an outbreak by the Department of Health, which include quarantine, isolation and treatment of suspected cases. The IDA was first gazetted in 2003 as Infectious Diseases Order (IDO). It was amended in 2006 to include Influenza A, B and other Influenza under the First and Second schedule. In 2006, Infectious Disease (Quarantine) Regulations was gazetted under IDO to allow for quarantine of port vessels, crews and passengers. The IDA is currently in the process of revision. |
