We have been operating in Brunei Darussalam since 1988 formerly known as Laboratory of Scientific Services (LSS), with its first laboratory being the Narcotic Laboratory. Over the years, the scope of scientific services has expanded, leading to the formal establishment of the Department of Scientific Services (DSS) in March 2000 under the Ministry of Health, Brunei Darussalam.
Currently, we provide scientific laboratory services to government agencies and law enforcement agencies in Brunei Darussalam as well as the public through the following laboratories:

Forensic Science
- Illicit Drugs Laboratory
- Toxicology Laboratory
- Forensic Biology Laboratory
- Physical Evidence Laboratory
The Health Science laboratories have been accredited to ISO/IEC 17025: General Requirements for the Competence of Testing and Calibration Laboratories by the Singapore Accreditation Council under the Singapore Laboratory Accreditation Scheme (SAC-SINGLAS) since March 2016. Meanwhile, the Forensic Science laboratories have been accredited to ISO/IEC 17025: General Requirements for the Competence of Testing and Calibration Laboratories, and AR 3125: Accreditation Requirements for Forensic Testing and Calibration by the ANSI National Accreditation Board (ANAB), USA, since May 2023.

When DSS is required by law or authorized by contractual arrangements to release confidential information, DSS will notify the client in advance.
