INTRODUCTION
The Foreign Workers Health Screening Programme, established since 1967, has several objectives, which includes:
Early detection of disease in foreign workers
Minimise risk of disease transmission/disease importation to the local population
Ensure the maintenance of a low level/disease free status of the country
Ensure that the foreign workers are medically fit to be employed in Brunei Darussalam.
Improve foreign workers productivity.
ARRIVAL IN BRUNEI DARUSSALAM
The new contract foreign
worker should clear the immigration procedures at the port of entry in
Brunei Darussalam. He/She shall attend a health screening procedure
following entry and if found fit, will be given a work pass and allowed
to be employed in the country.
The foreign worker shall attend for a health screening within one week of arrival.
The foreign worker shall then undergo blood tests for certain communicable diseases and chest X-ray.
If the foreign worker
is found to be fit, he/she will be given a “Yellow Form” to be
presented to the Department of Immigration and National Registration for
endorsement of the work pass.
RENEWAL OF CONTRACT
A foreign worker who has
completed his/her two years contract but wishes to continue employment
in Brunei Darussalam with the same employer will have to apply for an
“employment re-entry visa” prior to leaving Brunei Darussalam.
The foreign worker
shall register for a health screening within one week of arrival in
Brunei Darussalam and should bring his/her passport and IC for
verification purposes and other supporting documents (e.g. copy of BUR
555).
The worker shall then undergo the following investigations:
- Chest X-ray
- blood tests for certain communicable diseases.
If the foreign worker
is found to be fit, he/she will be issued a “Pink Form” to be presented
to the Department of Immigration and National Registration for
endorsement of the work pass.
