Boards Management Office (BMO)​

Ensuring public safety by regulating Brunei’s health practitioners in partnership with health professional Boards and Councils.

BMO Is Mandated To:

  • Improve capacity to ensure public safety through maintaining and improving standards.
  • Reduce red tape and increase efficiencies through lean management  and hence optimizing boards and councils performance.
  • Ensure that boards and councils maintain impartiality and uphold values of integrity.

Roles and Functions:

  1. Centralized registration of health professional
    • Provide centralized application for registration for all Boards.
    • Maintain a register of professionals in a centralized database system.
  2. Standards and guidelines
    • Supporting the Boards on professional standards, codes and guidelines in protecting public safety.
  3. Provides guidance for accreditation, education and training
    • Work closely with relevent Boards in providing guidances in the recognition/accreditation of health related programs and professional development.
  4. Health Practitioners Notification (Feedback and Concerns) Management:
    • Feedback and Concerns related to health practitioners can be forwaded to BMO for further necessary action if relevant
  5. Collaborate with relevant departments/agencies concerning health practitioners
  6. Monitor Performance of each of the Boards:
    • All Boards are required to submit their annual report which will be published

Traditional and Complementary Medicine Unit (TCM)

The Traditional and Complementary Medicine (TCM) Unit aims to safe guard the public safety by regulating the standard of practice of traditional and complementary medicine in Brunei Darussalam. The Brunei Medical Board aims to regulate medical practitioners and dentists that practices in Brunei Darussalam through registration in accordance with the The Medical Practitioners and Dentists Act (Cap 112). Through this register, medical practices in Brunei Darussalam can be kept in check enforcing a minimum standard for practitioners and dentists thus advocating for a safe and quality health care for the nation. Allied Health Professions Council of Brunei Darussalam

Delivering Optimal Healthcare With Quality Allied Health Services

The Allied Health Professionals in Brunei Darussalam embraces another milestone as the Allied Health Professions of Brunei Darussalam Act, Chapter 221 is enforced on 1 July 2017. With the regulation of a diverse group of 19 Allied Health Professions, this will bring Brunei Darussalam in line with the interna tional standards that strive to ensure patient safety and high standard of healthcare, as well as to ensure the registered Allied Health Professionals (AHP) are competent and fit to practise their professions within their scope of practices.

Together with the enforcement of the Act is the establishment of a statutory body – the Allied Health  Professions Council of Brunei Darussalam (AHPCBD) which governs and regulates the professionalism  of all registered AHP. The primary functions of the AHPCBD are to protect public interest through reg istration and issuance of practising certificates for registered AHP to set standards for practice, conduct  and training; as well as to maintain a register AHP in Brunei Darussalam. All regulated professionals are  mandated to register with the AHPCBD to commence or continue their practice in Brunei Darussalam.

Latest Announcement

  • All registered Allied Health Professionals must accrue at least 30 CPD points for this year’s APC renewal. There is no limit to the number of points that can be earned within any single CPD category.
  • The Council will announce the date for the commencement of APC renewal applications on this platform. Please check back regularly for updates.

Who Needs To Register

Any individual in Brunei Darussalam who is using the professional title and/or practising as one of the professions listed in the Schedule of the Allied Health Professions of Brunei Darussalam Act, Chapter 221 are mandated to register with the AHPCBD.  The regulated Allied Health Professionals are as follows:

Complaints and Concerns

Anyone can lodge a complaint regarding the registrant’s professional conduct or raise concerns regarding the registrant’s physical or mental health status which may affect clinical judgment and practice. In the interest of public safety and wellbeing, the AHPCBD strives to investigate all complaints and concerns in regard to the registrant’s fitness to practise. 

The process will be handled with the Boards Management Office (refer to Notification (Complaint) section under Boards Management Office, Ministry of Health).

Functions:

In accordance with Section 4(2) of the Allied Health Professions of Brunei Darussalam Act, Chapter 221, the functions of the Council are:

  1. to approve or reject applications for registration under this Act and to approve any such applications subject to such conditions as it may think fit;

  2. to issue practising certificates to registered allied health professionals;

  3. to accredit programmes for, and providers of, the training and assessment of persons seeking to become registered allied health professionals;

  4. to accredit programmes for, and providers of, the continuing professional education of registered allied health professionals;

  5. to determine and regulate the standards of practice, competence, conduct and ethics of registered allied health professionals;

  6. to keep and maintain the registers;

  7. to coordinate and supervise the activities of the committees and professional boards appointed under Section 8; and

  8. generally to do all such acts, matters and things as are necessary or authorised to be carried out un-
    der or for the purposes of this Act.

Offences and Penalties:

Any person who contravenes any offence stipulated in the Allied Health Professions of Brunei Darussalam Act, Chapter 221 is guilty of an offence and liable on conviction to a fine or imprisonment or both.
